ShowScoop: Yelp for Concerts

In our tech savvy day and age, recommendations for the latest products, restaurants, and places have taken to apps to spread the word to friends and users alike. Here at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles based Technology PR firm, we understand that a greater social media presence means a larger fan-base, and when it comes to fans there is no greater industry reliant on audience presence than the music and entertainment industry pushing chart topping singers and box office hits to stardom.

Just as individuals utilize Yelp to discover restaurant and store reviews, an app has been developed to allow users to review a singer or band’s live performance in the palm of your hand. ShowScoop is a relatively new app where users rate musicians on four categories: stage presence, crowd interaction, sound quality, and visual effects. Reviewers can also upload photos to give others a visual perspective on the event.

It’s alleged that this could grow to be very beneficial to lesser-known artists trying to gain more of a following, especially at music festivals. Festival-goers can see which artists to check out moments before set times.  With festival season gearing up, this will make discovering new artists easier than ever before with the click of a button.

Technology Fuses With Fast Food

The quick-serve industry is becoming more innovative in order to appeal to a new generation of customers. A new trend in fast food chains has showed an increase in hip and healthy restaurants. Here at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles based Technology and Hospitality PR firm, we are always looking out for the newest restaurants to test out.

From the use of technology to fresh and healthy menus, here is a list of some of our favorite up-and-coming chains that may be popping up in a city near you:

1. Umami Burger: Located in Florida and California, Unami Burger has an Asian vibe to it. This is a more upscale burger chain, and the prices reflect that.

2. Veggie Grill: This West-Coast oriented chain has a completely vegetarian menu. Los Angeles Magazine claims it is one of LA’s “Can’t miss cheap eats!”

3. Piada Italian Street Food: Italian food: chipotle style. The Ohio-based restaurants have an Italian-style assembly line for guests to hand-pick what they want in their meal.

4. Cups: The New York and New Jersey based yogurt chain features a nightclub-type vibe with loud music and a colorful lounge atmosphere. The slogan reads, “Cups Frozen Yogurt-That’s Hot.”

5. The Melt: California is home to this tech-infused chain which focuses on sandwiches and soups. Mobile ordering allows you to place your order anywhere, and digital screens in the restaurant show the status of your dish.

Tech Tuesday: Smartphones at Sporting Events

At PMBC Group, we understand how much social media has taken the world by storm, many people are constantly updating their pages. Fans at sporting events are typically using smartphones to text their friends, check-in on Facebook, tweet about the score, and Instagram images of the event, but what about the athletes? One Ukrainian tennis player decided to take out his smartphone and snap a photo after the ref made a call he did not agree with.

This weekend at the French Open, professional tennis player Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine, to many’s surprise, got out his smartphone to dispute a call. Stakhovsky took a picture of where his ball hit on the court to prove that the call was made with poor judgment. The players at the French Open play on a clay courts, which made it easy for him to show where the ball hit, especially with this close-up photograph.

Stakhovsky later tweeted the image, with the caption “Well…here’s what you asked for”. This is not the first time Stakhovsky has pulled a stunt like this before, and he is allegedly facing a fine for what he did.

Do you think he should have taken to social media?

Dancin’ In the Moonlight

PMBC Group, Los Angeles Entertainment PR firm, investigates what they’re calling the “Dance of the Planets.”  This weekend, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter are throwing their own celestial soiree.  At sunset between May 24th and 29th, observers can look into the western sky to see a triangle of three planets that would fit within a circle whose diameter is less than five degrees wide.

Social media has turned food into a fun and exciting way to share snippets of everyday life as more people turn to the internet to upload photos of restaurant dishes, recipes and pics of culinary creations. When fusing food with the magic of the internet, the end result often makes for savory moments in time. With friends checking-in on Facebook, tweeting about a great meal they just had or snapping a quick foody photo on  Instagram, the age-old concept of dining out has since received a hi-tech make-over.

Weekend Wows and Winners: The 2013 Billboard Music Awards

This year’s Billboard Music Awards, hosted by Tracy Morgan, were action-packed with over 15 musical performers, controversial performances and artists winning big.  Held at the MGM Grand this past Sunday in Las Vegas, Billboard gave us a night to remember.  PMBC Group, Los Angeles’ entertainment PR firm, highlights five of the night’s biggest events with this weeks Weekend Wows and Winners.Image

1.  Taylor Swift, as always, won big, taking home eight awards.  The awards included “Top Artist,” “Top Female Artist,” “Artist of the Year,” “Top Billboard,” “Top Country Artist,” “Tops” in the Billboard 200 and country albums categories, and “Top Country Song” for her hit single “We Are Never Getting Back Together.”

2. The night featured show-stopping performances by over 15 musical artists including Justin Bieber, Pitbull and Christina Aguilera, Akon, Madonna and Will.I.Am, Prince, David Guetta, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Miguel, The Band Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Bruno Mars, Iconopop, Chris Brown and more.

3. The most dramatic event occurred when singer, Miguel, attempted to jump over the crowd and fell on top of a female fan, Khyati.  Suffering only minor injuries, Khyati got the opportunity to meet the singer backstage! Miguel subsequently tweeted, “Got caught up in the moment, thank goodness Khyati is okay.”

4.  Selena Gomez gave a rather controversial performance of her hit single, “Come and Get It.”  The performance was Bollywood-themed, and the singer/actress donned a bindi, the traditional Hindu ornament.  Hindu leaders protested Gomez’s performance, saying that it was “insensitive” and “trivialize[d] Hinduism.”

5.  Also sparking some excitement was Gomez’s on-again-off-again beau, Justin Bieber.  The 19 year-old singer was booed after receiving the new “Milestone Award.”  Bieber defended himself during his acceptance speech saying, “this is not a gimmick, and I’m an artist, and I should be taken seriously.” We agree Justin.
