Kase Chong, the Director of Marketing at Scambook.com suggested, “fans [should] stick to authorized resellers like StubHub and eBay, which have safeguards to protect consumers against fraud. StubHub guarantees orders by replacing any tickets that turn out to be counterfeit or refunding the buyer’s money.” Kase offered five tips including: asking yourself if it’s too god to be true, not paying using a money order, examining the tickets prior, never buying e-tickets, and not giving personal information. Scambook Declares 2012 “Scam of the Year” to Aol Daily Finance

PMBC Group‘s client Scambook, the online complaint resolution platform, spoke with Aol Daily Finance to whom they declared the 2012 “Scam of the Year”: the phony $1,000 Target gift card scam.

Victims of this smishing scheme received a text prompting them to enter a code as well as personal information in return for a $1,000 Target gift card prize. Beginning in November, right before the prime shopping holiday season, this text message scam was sent to approximately 200-350K people nationally.

Although consumers’ personal information entered will go into a database that can later be sold on the black market, victims did not have money directly taken from them.  The best case scenario is that victims would fall prey to various other forms of spam and the worst case being identity-theft once all the pieces of information are put together. The best thing to do is not act as even texting “STOP” to the number confirms to scammers that your number is valid. To read the entire article click HERE.
