Music Monday: PMBC Celebrates the Life of Glee Star, Cory Monteith

Canadian born Cory Monteith was best known for his role as Finn Hudson on the hit musical show, Glee, featuring teenagers from different high-school cliques who came together because of their talent for singing.

Monteith was nowhere near Broadway musician material before Glee. His musical experiences stemmed from him playing the drums when he was younger, and as he got more into acting later in life, his manager suggested he submit an audition tape to a new show about a high-school choir. He had no singing or dancing experience, but sent a tape of him playing the “drums” on tupperware using pencils as drumsticks. He then traveled to Los Angeles from Canada for a callback, memorizing the words to songs on Billy Joel’s greatest hits and the RENT soundtrack on his road trip there to perform for his audition. His talent managed him to land one of the lead roles on Glee, and made him a role model to many because of that.

Glee is all about helping people feel comfortable in their shoes, and Monteith did not mind being made fun of for his two left feet in the show. In an interview, Monteith stated, “If I can, through my experience, shed light on the way out of a difficult situation, that I know many kids are experiencing, just like I did when I was a teenager,” he said, “that’s, that’s huge.”

All of us here at PMBC Group wish the best for Monteith’s family, as well as the rest of the Glee cast during this difficult time.
