Guinness Touches Soft Spot With New Ad

In today’s society, it seems as if every time we flip through the television there is nothing but ludicrous and absurd commercials being aired. However, Guinness, a popular Irish dry stout and one of the most successful beer brands worldwide, recently premiered a new commercial eluding stereotypes overshadowing most advertisements of its genre.

According to Mashable’s Todd Wasserman, the commercial is receiving much praise for a clever, touching twist. The ad has appeared on the front page of Reddit under the heading “One of the best alcohol commercials in a while.” Another respectable accolade includes receiving over 60,000 views since its release date, Sept. 3.

We at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles Lifestyle PR Firm, can respect the message being sent behind the ad: “dedication, loyalty, friendship…the choices we make reveal the true nature of our character.”

Millions Want Their Name Like ‘Breaking Bad’

AMC‘s hit show Breaking Bad is followed by more people than ever before, not only on TV and Netflix, but on social media channels like Facebook as well. One of the show’s most known trademarks comes from the title sequence where ‘Breaking Bad’ is spelled out including the symbols for bromine and barium, Br and Ba. The most recent campaign contributing to this is a Facebook-app which lets the fans ‘Breaking Bad’-ify their names in that fashion.

This might just seem like a cheap PR-trick to outsiders, but the fans engagement tells a different story. Since its launch on June 26, it has already been used by over 1.4 million people, 20,000 of whom accessed it in the first four minutes it was available. Eighty-thousand of these people eager to make their names go bad, just like the show’s stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, have access to the app via Breaking Bad’s Facebook page allowing them to become fans adding up to an impressing total of 51 million.

Here at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles based Technology PR firm, we are always thrilled to see different ways to engage fans of shows and brands on social media. It’s always refreshing when a simple approach like this one proves just as successful as innovative multi-million dollar campaigns. You don’t always have to reinvent the wheel, and letting the fans make something personal that’s related to their favorite show will also give them a valuable emotional attachment, not to mention they will share it with their friends.

Social Media Turned Reality Show: Rich Kids of Beverly Hills

As social media infiltrates all areas of our lives, we have yet to see it take off in the true sense of the word “entertainment” until now. The Rich Kids of Instagram is being transformed into a reality show comprised of “several of the blog’s 20-something friends who are living a world of extreme wealth.” This is set to focus on the kids of Beverly Hills who have so much money they own lions, Ferraris, private jets, and casual croquet sets in their backyards – but to a whole new degree.

“Rich Kids of Beverly Hills” is set to be produced by ITV Studios America in association with Leepson Bounds Entertainment, showcasing the kids frolicking around with other million and billion-heirs. The Tumblr states, “They have more money than you and this is what they do.”

As part of the Beverly Hills community, we are interested to see what will come of such rumors about social media’s true showcase of everyday life.

Music Monday: PMBC Celebrates the Life of Glee Star, Cory Monteith

Canadian born Cory Monteith was best known for his role as Finn Hudson on the hit musical show, Glee, featuring teenagers from different high-school cliques who came together because of their talent for singing.

Monteith was nowhere near Broadway musician material before Glee. His musical experiences stemmed from him playing the drums when he was younger, and as he got more into acting later in life, his manager suggested he submit an audition tape to a new show about a high-school choir. He had no singing or dancing experience, but sent a tape of him playing the “drums” on tupperware using pencils as drumsticks. He then traveled to Los Angeles from Canada for a callback, memorizing the words to songs on Billy Joel’s greatest hits and the RENT soundtrack on his road trip there to perform for his audition. His talent managed him to land one of the lead roles on Glee, and made him a role model to many because of that.

Glee is all about helping people feel comfortable in their shoes, and Monteith did not mind being made fun of for his two left feet in the show. In an interview, Monteith stated, “If I can, through my experience, shed light on the way out of a difficult situation, that I know many kids are experiencing, just like I did when I was a teenager,” he said, “that’s, that’s huge.”

All of us here at PMBC Group wish the best for Monteith’s family, as well as the rest of the Glee cast during this difficult time.

Weekend Wows and Winners: Entertainment and Sports Take Top Headlines

Here at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles PR Firm, we take notice on what transpires in pop culture. From the realms of entertainment to sports, we know of five headlines that not only caught our eye but generated buzz for this weekend’s Wows and Winners.

  1. Robin Thicke performed his hit single “Blurred Lines” this past weekend at the BET Awards. His number one album has had so much success that Thicke is currently contemplating a name change to “Blurred Lines” of course, but for now we’ll just have to wait and see.
  2. The BET Awards 2013 was another great success. Expecting nothing less than amazement, it was the stars that shined on this year’s media filled red carpet.
  3. The 2013 Confederations Cup was also much anticipated, as the young powerhouse of Brazil defeated the World Cup Champion Spain 3-0 at home. Arguably the best two teams in the world, this was a test for both teams before next summer’s World Cup.
  4. Jessica Simpson made headlines again as she gave birth to her second child, little Ace Knute Johnson. Simpson had a scheduled C-section Sunday in Los Angeles, this according to her representative.
  5. Ray Donovan,  Live Schreiber’s latest crime drama, shot to the top of the premium cable network ratings, making it the best-ever for an original series, surpassing Showtime successes Homeland and Dexter.

Ten years later, followed by an unforeseen massive cult-like following, Arrested Development is making it’s way back to the small screen but not in the average remote-to-TV kind of way. Amazon Studios Shoots ‘Betas’ Pilot at Real Office Centers

Socal Tech recently reported some of the hottest news coming from Real Office Centers Santa Monica. Amazon Studios has teamed up with producer Scott Sites, famous for the Comedy Central sitcom Workaholics, to produce a new pilot that was shot at ROC called ‘Betas.’

Real Office Centers, PMBC Group

This pilot was based on the Silicon Valley tech community and follows a young entrepreneur on his startup journey. Making waves for the entertainment industry, Amazon Studios is also paving the way for Amazon’s Instant Video service. ROC is ideal for production companies looking for a particular month lease, editing bays, and all the necessary amenities. ROC’s lobby, coworking environment, rooftop, and exterior (which some may recognize as the old Google offices) will be the center for shooting what has been dubbed as “a Silicon Valley version of the Big Bang Theory.”
