Locca Launches Indiegogo Campaign to Raise Awareness for Future of GPS Locators

Austrian startup Locca, offering the world’s smallest, most sophisticated GPS locators with precise in- and-out door locating technologies that allow users to stay in contact with everyone and everything, is launching an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to bring their cutting-edge location technology to people internationally.

First launched in Germany, Austria, and now the United States, this campaign is  meant to raise awareness and transform the world of GPS locators with Locca’s modern design, minimal constructive, intuitive handling, extensive battery service life, and a prime tracking technique. Within the first week of its funding campaign, Locca was able to raise 10,000 euros of the 75,000 euro goal.

The Locca smartphone app is estimated to be in the iTunes store by early November and the product is expected to hit the market in December 2013. For more information about the Indiegogo campaign, please visit http://igg.me/at/locca.

MediaPost Covers OverNear’s Industry Changing Proximity Based App

With the cessation of many proximity based social media platforms, professionals have been perplexed by the fact that so many startups have still tried to propose the concept. However, rather than simply broadcasting current locations, OverNear is focussing on another element: the future. MediaPost took a look at OverNear and its concentration on the idea of planning future social events.

MediaPost described OverNear’s features saying, “OverNear keeps track of the times and places you and your friends plan on being with a calendar-like feature, then automatically highlights when your plans overlap, making it easier to coordinate and take advantage of social opportunities. The overlap is shown graphically with overlapping user timelines linked to interactive maps; the individual user can set the desired range for alerts (in case they only want to hear from friends within, say, one mile of their present location, with a maximum rang of five miles). The app also stores each user’s history, so you can tell if friends have, for example, visited a particular bar or restaurant before. Users can invite friends via their phone contacts or by importing their Facebook friends.”

MediaPost understands OverNear’s promise for absolute privacy, a concern of many location-absed social networks that have had to fold. Rather, OverNear only shares locations with friends and a relative location at that. Limited information can be shared with the activation of such settings and the location-sharing automatically shuts off after a set amount of time unless set to be “active” such that users are protected. Yelp Introduces a New Feature: Yelp WorldMap

When it comes to restaurants and businesses, you can now always find exactly what you’re looking for.  With Yelp’s newest feature the Yelp WorldMap, users can use keywords to find precisely what they want by simply typing in a keyword as vague as “romantic,” “cheap,” or even “bacon.”

Once users hit “Search,” WorldMap yields a heatmap indicating areas in which one can find restaurants and businesses that pertain to the keyword.  Areas with more pertinent locations are indicated by darker blotches of red, while areas with fewer locations are lighter.

So far, the WorldMap is available for 14 cities, including Austin, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Philadelphia, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto and Washington, D.C.

This is the perfect addition to Yelp for both tourists and those looking to discover new hotspots in their own neighborhoods.  We at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles Technology PR Firm can’t wait to try it out this holiday weekend!

“Points” Will Literally Point You in the Right Direction

We have all been overwhelmed trying to make our way to a huge event or through a big city, and sometimes even a GPS can confuse us if we are facing the wrong direction. Wouldn’t it be much easier if we had something to point us in the right direction? Here at PMBC Group, a Technology PR firm based in Los Angeles, we continue to be dazzled by new and innovative technological advancements. A new development from Breakfast, NY may be able to help ease that sense of aimlessness.

Points is designed to be used for a variety of locations, including theme parks, conferences, and festivals. It is a high-tech street sign that’s connected to the Internet, with three arrows that can rotate 360 degrees to point in any direction you need to go. The LED arrows can display virtually any message, including street names, nearby transit, events, news, and tweets.

People passing by can use the small keypad on the sign to select the information they want to see on the sign, which can help people to find their way through an event or  city or even to a place to eat lunch. The information on the keypad changes throughout the day to make the options appropriate for timeliness, so “coffee” might show up in the morning, while “dinner” or “drinks” will appear in the evening. Points may soon be coming to an event near you!

What technology do you use to get around?
