Zuckerberg Attempts to Connect the Whole Planet to the Internet

In a world where even the older generation is active on social media websites such as Facebook, it’s surprising to hear that two thirds of the world’s population, over 5 billion people, still do not have internet connection at the moment. Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes that everyone deserves the possibilities internet can bring, and strives to change that. After connecting 1.1 billion people on Facebook, who could be better suited to take on the task to connect the rest of the world?

Together with heavyweights like Samsung and Nokia, who’s slogan is “Connecting People,” Internet.org is the initiative that will do just that, making internet access available to people all over the world. While we might think of the internet as a way of sharing news and catching up with friends, Zuckerberg realizes the way people will use it in other parts of the world may be different. “They’re going to use it to decide what kind of government they want, to get access to healthcare for the first time ever, and to connect with family hundreds of miles away they haven’t seen in decades,” Zuckerberg says.

Here at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles based Technology PR firm, we agree with Zuckerberg’s idea that everyone deserves the possibilities internet connection brings, and we are excited to follow the progress. Who knows what the world would be able to accomplish if we were all united.

Google Pulls from Google Accounts to Focus Search

Just as advertisements pull from users web history, Google is soon going to start streamlining its “search” functionality to align with users’ accounts. Google will have the ability to pull up flight status details, dinner reservations, and even tracking information for packages.

It’s as simple as typing, “What is my flight status” into the search toolbar, and the site will scour your email, Google Calendar, and even Google+, matching it against real-time information about the flight. With the growing popularity of pictures and video content, users will be happy to know Google will even look sift through all your Google-related accounts to bring these to you with ease and precision.

Coming to desktops, tablets, and smartphones in the next few days, this new feature will be available to US, English-speaking users. This extension, which has been offered to those with the personal assistant feature Google Now , will now enable Google Voice to assist in these searches making smartphones questions even easier.

For those worried about privacy features, the feature can be turned off and blocked permanently.

At PMBC Group, Los Angeles tech PR firm, we see what Google is rolling out as a beneficial feature that will only make our busy lives more organized and efficient. Allowing users to choose whether this feature is utilized will also create security, a common misconception with tech developments.

“Points” Will Literally Point You in the Right Direction

We have all been overwhelmed trying to make our way to a huge event or through a big city, and sometimes even a GPS can confuse us if we are facing the wrong direction. Wouldn’t it be much easier if we had something to point us in the right direction? Here at PMBC Group, a Technology PR firm based in Los Angeles, we continue to be dazzled by new and innovative technological advancements. A new development from Breakfast, NY may be able to help ease that sense of aimlessness.

Points is designed to be used for a variety of locations, including theme parks, conferences, and festivals. It is a high-tech street sign that’s connected to the Internet, with three arrows that can rotate 360 degrees to point in any direction you need to go. The LED arrows can display virtually any message, including street names, nearby transit, events, news, and tweets.

People passing by can use the small keypad on the sign to select the information they want to see on the sign, which can help people to find their way through an event or  city or even to a place to eat lunch. The information on the keypad changes throughout the day to make the options appropriate for timeliness, so “coffee” might show up in the morning, while “dinner” or “drinks” will appear in the evening. Points may soon be coming to an event near you!

ShowScoop: Yelp for Concerts

In our tech savvy day and age, recommendations for the latest products, restaurants, and places have taken to apps to spread the word to friends and users alike. Here at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles based Technology PR firm, we understand that a greater social media presence means a larger fan-base, and when it comes to fans there is no greater industry reliant on audience presence than the music and entertainment industry pushing chart topping singers and box office hits to stardom.

showscoop

Just as individuals utilize Yelp to discover restaurant and store reviews, an app has been developed to allow users to review a singer or band’s live performance in the palm of your hand. ShowScoop is a relatively new app where users rate musicians on four categories: stage presence, crowd interaction, sound quality, and visual effects. Reviewers can also upload photos to give others a visual perspective on the event.

It’s alleged that this could grow to be very beneficial to lesser-known artists trying to gain more of a following, especially at music festivals. Festival-goers can see which artists to check out moments before set times.  With festival season gearing up, this will make discovering new artists easier than ever before with the click of a button.

Internet Explorer Invokes 90s Nostalgia

Nothing says “blast from the past” quite like Tamagotchis, floppy disks, pogs and Hungry Hungry Hippos. Thanks to Microsoft Internet Explorer’s latest advertisement, PMBC Group, Los Angeles Tech PR firm, is reminiscing about the nineties.

From slap bracelets to Oregon Trail, the Microsoft ad tugs on the heart strings of “Generation Y” in attempt to return Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome converts back to the browser they grew up using. “You grew up. So did we,” the “Child of the 90s” ad concludes, as the words “Reconnect with the new Internet Explorer” flash on the screen. The “new” Internet Explorer 10 is “bigger, bolder, and optimized for touch,” with revamped tabs, buttons and toolbars. Microsoft is re-entering the tech race and we can’t wait to see what they come out with next.
