Twitter Ups Their Security Measures

In today’s world, privacy and data protection is a huge struggle, especially in regards to social media. Today, many tech companies are beefing up their security to the outsiders and this includes the government.

Earlier this year, information that the National Security Agency spying on tech companies was leaked. Following this, many tech companies including Google and Facebook announced that they would be adopting extra security measures.

Twitter is the latest platform to join in taking steps to enhance safety features. They have added forward secrecy, a security measure that uses temporary, individual keys to encrypt each Web session, instead of relying on a single master key. This processes prevents outside organizations from using the same key to de-crypt previous messages.

The only downside to these precautions is that it will add some lag while connecting to Twitter, but Twitter thinks the delay is worth it.

Here at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles Technology PR Firm, we’re enthusiastic about following the tech industry’s initiative to take precautions and make the tech sphere a safer place for us.

Tech Tuesday: Android’s 4.4 System Named “Kit Kat”

Google is breaking itself off a piece of that Kit Kat Bar. The tech giant announced Tuesday its newest version Android 4.4 mobile operating system will be named after Nestlé’s worldwide popular chocolate bar.

The news comes as a shock as many tech followers speculated the operating system would likely be named Key Lime Pie. However, this is significant because for the first time Android’s operating system isn’t being named after a generic dessert. The old mobile operating system names consisted of Cupcake, Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and Jellybean.

It appears as if this is an old-school marketing deal as neither side will be receiving compensation for the collaboration. According to Mashable’s Samantha Murphy Kelly, a Google representative reported no money was exchanged in the pact.

Hershey, which licenses the Kit Kat Brand in the U.S, was approached by Google six to nine months ago. The company was appealed by the proposition because Android hits the sweet spot of Kit Kat eaters, whose demographic ranges between the ages of 18 and 34, said Jennifer Podhajsky, vice president of U.S chocolate at Hershey.

We at PMBC Group, a Los Angeles Technology PR Firm, are thrilled to see the Android Mascot featured on the cover of the crispy Kit Kat bar candy.

Google Pulls from Google Accounts to Focus Search

Just as advertisements pull from users web history, Google is soon going to start streamlining its “search” functionality to align with users’ accounts. Google will have the ability to pull up flight status details, dinner reservations, and even tracking information for packages.

It’s as simple as typing, “What is my flight status” into the search toolbar, and the site will scour your email, Google Calendar, and even Google+, matching it against real-time information about the flight. With the growing popularity of pictures and video content, users will be happy to know Google will even look sift through all your Google-related accounts to bring these to you with ease and precision.

Coming to desktops, tablets, and smartphones in the next few days, this new feature will be available to US, English-speaking users. This extension, which has been offered to those with the personal assistant feature Google Now , will now enable Google Voice to assist in these searches making smartphones questions even easier.

For those worried about privacy features, the feature can be turned off and blocked permanently.

At PMBC Group, Los Angeles tech PR firm, we see what Google is rolling out as a beneficial feature that will only make our busy lives more organized and efficient. Allowing users to choose whether this feature is utilized will also create security, a common misconception with tech developments.

Sourcebit Envisions New Design for Google Glass

Google deserves a round of applause for its innovative thinking and attempt to change the way modern civilization will exist with Google Glass. Presumably, most individuals’ initial concern is privacy issues, never knowing who may be snapping a photo of you in public at any given moment. However, critics are finding that some consumers just don’t want to wear the glasses  based on the product’s lack of style; that’s where Sourcebit, a “design-led engineering” firm comes into play.

Sourcebit is out to turn Google’s attempt at modern-sleek glasses into a more comfortable and fashionable product. Reimaging the glasses, Sourcebit aims for a more retro and futuristic design, this according to Sourcebit’s Rahul Nihalani in a report by the Huffington Post.

Not only will the glass have a more pop-culture oriented look, but they will be more balanced, attempting to solve some aesthetic problems that future models will need to address.  Found so far have been uneven weight distribution and a need for dual touch pads to cater to both right and left handed users.

Here at PMBC, a Los Angeles Technology PR Firm, it is too early to tell if this design will ever become a finished product, but we are optimistic that it will bring full optimization for future users.

Victor Oladipo Wears Google Glass During NBA Draft

With the NBA Draft there have been reports of Dwight Howard’s unlikely return to the Lakers and insight into the soon to be blockbuster trade between the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets, helping the sports realm make top headlines. However, here at PMBC Group, we were most dazzled with former Indiana Hoosiers guard Victor Oladipo for something he was sporting that was a bit surprising.

Oladipo was taken second overall in the NBA draft by the Orlando Magic Thursday night, rocking his Google Glass around the draft room before waiting to hear his name called by NBA Commissioner David Stern. We found this to be an unprecedented, but impressive accessory complementing his already classy attire.

Google Glass, if posted on social media platforms, will allow fans to follow and acquire a new perspective from the lens of an NBA Draftee, and not only does this piece of technology cash in at $1500, but it is not expected to be released until next year.

Google Is Changing Its Waze

The mega corporation Google has just purchased the GPS-based navigational app, Waze for approximately $1.3 billion, making some pretty exciting news for the tech world and consumers alike.  Waze adds a whole new dimension, obtaining its mapping information from its users who provide real-life up-to-date information regarding traffic jams, car accidents, road construction and even police sightings.

The majority of us here at PMBC Group, Los Angeles Technology PR Firm, use Waze every day to go to and from work, but we asked the question, why Google?  CEO of Waze, Noam Bardin has said that Google “was the best company positioned for a mobile world,” providing a bit of reasoning for the company’s decision to accept Google’s offer.  The next move for Waze and Google is to continue working out how they will infiltrate an advertisement and promotional system for different companies nearby.  Needless to say, there is much to come from this collaboration, and we’re excited to see it.

Tech Tuesday: The Unsettling Reactions to Google Glass

Google Glass, now we’re talking innovation at its finest. The wearable computer has set new boundaries for innovation while paving the road for techies. As Uncle Ben tells Spiderman “with great power comes great responsibility,” in Google’s case they’re experiencing backlash even before releasing the product to the public.

Google Glass

The argument against Google Glass derives from privacy issues with businesses and societal norms. Cafes, casinos, movie theaters and various clubs are against the revolutionary products due to inherent facts behind Google Glass. Consumers have the ability to record, both visual and audio more conspicuously than the average phone. While there is an increasing amount of issues surround the new Google product, it is still slated for technological success.
